I love photography. In fact, making and sharing pictures is one of my favorite things about writing this blog. So you can imagine my excitement when some local business owners, after seeing my blog photos, expressed an interest in hiring me to make photos for their websites. I felt happy and humbled.
One of my potential clients was curious to see how I might photograph things other than food, such as a place, event or object. With that in mind, I set out this past weekend in search of inspiration. I found it at the farmer's market and a local antique store.
My first stop was The Antique Company, where the owner kindly obliged my request to photograph some of the items in his enormous store. With thousands of antiques spread over two levels, the store is a treasure trove. I could have spent hours wandering the aisles. These adorable glass piggies were among the first things to catch my eye.
Aren't these old market baskets wonderful? And like many food bloggers, I'm a sucker for vintage flatware with its beautiful patina.
Upstairs, I found even more antique kitchen items. Two of my favorites were a stove-top popcorn maker and an incredible vintage bread "machine," complete with the instructions in raised letters on the lid.
I don't think these boxes are vintage, but I really like the whimsical designs and colors.
To my surprise and delight, I found a (not so) secret garden behind the store, chock full of lovely things.
I was especially enamored of the gorgeous antique ironwork...
...and although I found these hubcaps oddly appealing, I have no idea what I would ever do with them.
I also have no idea where I would put this little picnic table and matching benches, but I can't seem to get them out of my mind. The worn paint actually made them even more appealing to me.
The next day, I headed over to the Sunday Farmer's Market. As always, I was swooning over the bounty of local fruits and vegetables.
Don't these radicchio look just like enormous roses? Simply stunning.
In my family, a visit to the farmer's market is not complete unless we stop for honey and freshly-baked croissants.
Am I the only one who finds eggs and hands both perfectly photogenic? I love making pictures of them.
As I've mentioned before, the people are what really make any farmer's market special. The passionate and friendly vendors...
the children and their parents...
and - no matter where you are - the lovers.
